Drake & Will Smith at Black History Month Gala

Leaders in sports, politics, non-profits, medicine and entertainment amongst honorees
The Mandela Legacy will honour some of the brightest names in entertainment, sports, politics and fashion at the 2016 Canadian Black History Month Gala and dinner on Feb. 20, 2016.
The fifth annual gala will be held at the Canadian Museum of History, in Gatineau, Quebec.
Presented by TD Bank, ArtXPeriential Project and the Black History Month Committee, the Mandela Legacy awards are given to individuals who empower others through their work and achievements.
This year’s Black History Month’s theme is 'What will be your legacy?'
“This year’s award winners are exceptional individuals who, through their passion and tireless efforts, are inspiring and positively influencing lives around the world. They encourage us all to do better, be better and believe in a brighter future” says Zondwa Mandela, co-founder of the Mandela Legacy Foundation and grandson to the late Nelson Mandela.

This year’s honourees include Kanye West, Spike Lee, Drake, Will and Jada Smith, Craig King, Naomi Campbell, P.K. Subban and Measha Brueggergosman, as well as Toronto Raptors’ general manager, Masai Ujiri; the first Canadian-trained Somali woman surgeon, Dr Fahima Osman; Ghanaian women’s rights advocate, Catherine Addai; French-Congolese rapper Youssoupha Mabikiand the HERA Mission of Canada. Local broadcasters Barbara Laurenstin and Sabine Daniel, as well as Project Jenga founder Mitch Kurlyowicz will be honoured as well. Members of the Mandela family, including Her Excellency Zindzi Mandela, Her Excellency Zenani Mandela and Lindo Mandela will be in attendance.
